UConn advanced to NCAA Quarterfinal in OT vs. New Mexico

Connecticut native  Nicholas Zuniga sent the UConn Huskies to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament with a goal in the 2nd OT of a 3rd round game vs. Mexico last Saturday. This marks the 13th time and second consecutive year that the Huskies have reached the Quarterfinals of the tournament. They are the only New England team remaining in the tournament. The quarterfinals take place this Sunday in Storrs, CT. 

URI Parts Ways with Men's Soccer Coach

The University of Rhode Island has decided to not renew the contract of Men's soccer coach, John O'Connor. O'Connor has coached the Rams for the previous 7 seasons, leaving with a 52-64-19 (.456) overall record. This season the Rams finished at a disappointing 4-11-3. The search for a new coach has already begun, according to URI's official athletic site.

Revs fire assistant coach

The New England Revolution have fired assistant coach David Vaudreuil. Vaudreuil, who was also coach of the reserve team. General manager Mike Burns said a change of direction was the reason for the change. The Revolution have already started looking for a replacement as they seek to rebound from a difficult 2012 season.

BC standout named to Women's Hermann Trophy shortlist

Kristen Mewis, a Senior at Boston College, was the only women player from a New England School named as a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy. Mewis was an all-ACC team selection and lead BC in goals and assists this season. Fans can vote on the Trophy winner on the offical website.

3 New England men named to MAC-Hermann Trophy Shortlist

Three players from New England area colleges have been named to the shortlist for the Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the Nation's best soccer player annually by the Missouri Athletic Club. Two of these players are from the University of Connecticut ( Carlos Alvarez, Mamadou Diouf ) and one from Northeastern University (Don Anding). Part of the vote is determined by the fans, who can vote online.
